Today's shelf prices for the staples you actually buy.
fifteen staples priced off the shelf in 7 stores across the Philippines, at the same quantities in each.
What the basket costs, store by store
The dot is how many times the cheapest shelf that store charges, averaged over the staples it prices — the landscape's own scale. Each small mark is one staple: a tight clump is a store that is what it is on everything, a scattered row means the answer depends on what you buy. The total beside it is what those staples cost there, and it only compares like for like on the rows whose coverage says every staple.

The basket over time
A gap is a day we could not price every staple, drawn as a gap rather than guessed across.
Hatched span: days we could not price every staple. Thin lines: each store's own sum over what it priced -- a hollow point is a partial day.
How we know
Every number here came off a shelf, and we keep the receipts.
Prices are read from each store's own catalogue, not from a panel or a survey. When a scraper breaks, the basket stops rather than carrying yesterday's number forward, and the pins we do not trust are excluded and named.
